BIGGEST POWERBALL JACKPOT WINNERS IN 2018

18.09.2018

Powerball has made some people very rich. Here are the top Lottery winners.

CONCORD, N.H. – The winner of a $559.7 million New Hampshire Powerball jackpot has claimed her prize and is donating a combined $250,000 to Girls Inc. of New Hampshire and three chapters of End 68 Hours of Hunger. The winner claimed the $559.7 million prize through the Good Karma Family 2018 Nominee Trust facilitated by the law firm of Shaheen & Gordon, P.A with William Shaheen serving as trustee. Shaheen made the donation announcement today during a press conference at New Hampshire Lottery Headquarters in Concord alongside the nonprofit organizations.

The winner had two options, taking a lump-sum cash payment of approximately $352 million or an annuity payment over 30 years. The winner opted for the one-time cash payment, which netted her $264 million after federal taxes were withheld. The winning Powerball ticket was sold at Reed’s Ferry Market in Merrimack for the January 6 drawing. This win marks the 11th Powerball jackpot winner in New Hampshire history. Most recently in the summer of 2016, a New Hampshire player won a $487 million winning Powerball ticket purchased at the Hannaford Supermarket in Raymond.

A jackpot-winning Powerball® ticket from March 17, 2018, drawing has been claimed, the Pennsylvania Lottery announced today. The jackpot had an advertised annuity value of $456.7 million. The claimant, Emerald Legacy Trust, opted to receive a cash prize of $273,959,698, less 24 percent federal and 3.07 percent state tax withholding. The after-tax prize amount is $199,798,807.75. The winning ticket, sold at Speedway, 675 Lancaster Road, Manheim, Lancaster County, matched all five white balls, 22-57-59-60-66, and the red Powerball 07, to win Powerball’s eighth-largest jackpot on record. It is the largest prize ever awarded by the Pennsylvania Lottery as well as the state’s 18th Powerball jackpot win.

Mr. Souami had the only jackpot-winning ticket for the May 19th Powerball drawing, making him New Jersey’s newest “MULTI” millionaire. He has elected to take the cash option with a payout of $183.2 million. This winner has been playing the Lottery for 21 years and is a regular shopper at the Shoprite of Hackensack where the ticket was purchased. The winning ticket was a Quick Pick. Mr. Souami said his son had been urging him for years to stop playing the Lottery because he believed his dad would never win. Definitely, this is one-time “father knew best.”

Mr. Souami didn’t check the ticket until the next day, Sunday when he stopped by another store that happened to be a Lottery retailer. He scanned the ticket and the screen displayed a message instructing him to see the retailer. After giving the ticket to the clerk, she scanned it and said, “Oh my God!” He asked the clerk what he won and she said, “It’s big.” Mr. Souami asked, “How big?” She replied, “VERY big.” Mr. Souami thought maybe it was the $50,000 prize, but then he saw the validation slip and it said “Jackpot.” He knew then that he had won a LOT of money; his heart was racing and he was shaking so much that it took him four tries to fill out the claim form.
